Rankings and such

I'm late, I know
Again, I'm sorry. I want to update this more but I've been tired as hell as of late (as mentioned on the blog that actually gets hits... 500 a day, in fact). Anyway, here's the list. As per standard with pretty much any list put out by a major site, there are a number of laughable spots.

11. Clinton Portis, RB, Redskins
Hm... guy averages 5.5 yards per carry in RB Heaven (as denoted in the recent post) and 3.8 yards per carry outside of it. Yeah, he's the eleventh best player in the league! Of course! This one makes no sense at all. I'd believe Kevin Jones was eleventh best before I'd believe Portis was eleventh best.

13. Walter Jones, T, Seahawks
It's not that I have a problem with Jones. I can't say I've seen him play much, he's probably great. But he's got an inherent flaw: He's an offensive lineman. Unless one is one of the greatest of all time, he shouldn't be anywhere near the top ten players in the league at any time. Lineman play as a unit. One by himself just can't be that high up in my mind.

47. Brian Urlacher, LB, Bears
He had 69 tackles in 2004. Okay, he was hurt last year. Players do tend to get hurt in the NFL. But slanting up to 16 games (similar to my 36 minutes for NBA players), he had 123 tackles. So that'd be five years in a row of 116+ tackles if he wasn't hurt, for an average of 126 a year. Similarly, if slanted up, he averages 6 sacks a year. 126 tackles and 6 sacks a year. And he's 27. You're telling me that's only good enough for 47th in the league? Not quite.

There are some other things I could nitpick about (Henderson, Rice, Culpepper), but those are the main ones. There's another ranking list out, more on it next post.
